Ellesmere Port Yoga Classes

Meet Lyndsey

Utpluthihi. Ashtanga Yoga. Primary series. Intermediate series. Finishing sequence

Lyndsey Stewart SYT.

Lyndsey Stewart SYT, Trainer Pro

Founder, Ellesmere Port Yoga & My Yoga Place

Drawn to yoga’s physical power at just 15, Lyndsey Stewart soon discovered its deeper promise: the ability to calm the mind and transform a life. Battling depression, anxiety and panic attacks in her mid-twenties, she made practice a daily ritual; within a few years yoga had restored her confidence and vitality.

Determined to share what she had gained, Lyndsey spent extensive periods in India and Asia studying with world-renowned teachers before opening Ellesmere Port Yoga in 2010. The studio quickly became known for inclusive, light-hearted classes that guide students from absolute beginner all the way to advanced practitioner—or even teacher training.

When the 2020 pandemic forced studio doors to close, Lyndsey launched My Yoga Place Online, allowing her community to keep moving, breathing and connecting from home. The virtual studio now hosts pre-dawn livestreams five days a week, supported by an active online forum where Lyndsey personally checks in with members and there is a whole catalogue of courses and digital content for your to learn without breaking the bank on expensive travel or studio time.

Today Lyndsey is a Senior Yoga Teacher (500-hour, Yoga Alliance Professionals) and a passionate mentor. Whether you want to touch your toes, cultivate daily discipline, or become a certified teacher yourself, she meets you where you are—combining Ashtanga’s vigor with restorative balance and a hearty dose of humour.

Outside the studio, Lyndsey is a devoted mum and BSc Psychology student, insights she weaves into her teaching to create a practice that strengthens body, steadies mind and nourishes community.

Why Yoga with Lyndsey?

Yoga with Lyndsey at My Yoga PLace

Welcome to Lyndsey’s Yoga

At Lyndsey’s Yoga, every class begins with a warm welcome and the gentle reminder that yoga is a personal journey—one that unfolds at your own pace. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, Lyndsey creates a space where you’re encouraged to move mindfully, breathe deeply, and tune into what your body truly needs, whilst cultivating discipline and respect for a traditional ancient practice,

A Practice That Meets You Where You Are

No two bodies—or days—are the same. Lyndsey encourages you to listen closely to your body and follow your breath, allowing your practice to evolve in a way that supports your unique needs. There’s no pressure to perform or push; instead, there’s space to grow with integrity and compassion.

Lightness, Laughter, and Learning

Yoga can be challenging, but that doesn’t mean it has to be serious all the time. Lyndsey brings a light-hearted energy into every class, helping you meet challenges with a smile. We laugh, we wobble, we try again. We learn on the mat—and we carry those lessons into our daily lives.

Living with Purpose and Integrity

For us, yoga isn’t just about flexibility or strength. It’s about living with intention. When we stretch and breathe on the mat, we’re cultivating awareness and resilience that ripple into everything we do. This is the heart of our practice: to show up with purpose, live with integrity, and make life a little more joyful.

What to Expect

In every class, we:

  • Stretch and lengthen the body

  • Strengthen muscles and focus

  • Breathe with awareness and control

  • Connect with ourselves and others

  • Surrender what no longer serves us

  • Live more mindfully and fully

Lyndsey’s passion for yoga and for life is truly infectious. Join us on the mat, and let’s make life a little lighter—together.

Enhance Your Wellness

Yoga gently conditions the body while centering the mind: through targeted stretching and strength-building postures it increases muscular tone, joint flexibility and blood flow, and when paired with slow, diaphragmatic breathing—expands lung capacity and supports cardiovascular health.

At the same time, the rhythm of movement and breath activates the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering stress hormones and sharpening focus, so you meet daily challenges with greater clarity and calm.

In short, yoga helps you feel stronger, breathe deeper and stay present—cultivating a healthier connection with yourself and those around you..

Ashtanga Yoga

What Is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga is an energetic, breath-linked style of yoga made up of six progressive series:

  1. Primary Series

  2. Intermediate Series

  3. Advanced Series A, B, C & D

Most led classes focus on the Primary Series. In a led session the teacher calls out each posture, demonstrates or assists, and keeps everyone moving together with the breath.

The Primary Series

   What to Expect

Sun Salutations A dynamic warm-up that synchronises breath and movement, gradually becoming a moving meditation. Practised by everyone from day one.

Standing Postures A fixed standing sequence that builds strength, balance, and mobility. Start with the simpler shapes; add the full sequence as strength and flexibility improve.

Seated Postures Forward folds, twists and hip openers. We introduce new poses one at a time; you’ll work up to Marīcyāsana D before moving on.

Backbends & Finishing Gentle counter-poses, inversions and cooling shapes. Practised by all levels for recovery and nervous-system reset.

Savasana Complete rest and integration, leaving you clear and energised. —

A full Primary Series takes about 90 minutes once mastered; beginners start with a one-hour practice and gradually build up.

Why Practise Ashtanga?

  • Detox & Vitality – The systematic squeezing, stretching and steady breathing stimulate circulation, draw impurities to the surface, and flush them away with sweat.

  • Mental Focus – Because the sequence is set, your mind can drop everyday concerns and settle into breath-centric concentration.

  • Progress You Can Measure – Master one posture, then earn the next: a built-in motivation loop that keeps you coming back.

  • Lasting Benefits – Strength, flexibility, discipline and calm continue to deepen the longer you practise.

Ashtanga Yoga is one of the more challenging forms of yoga.

 It consists of six series

1. The Primary Series

2. The Intermediate Series

3-6 Advanced Series A,B,C,D

In most led classes you will primarily practice the primary series in a led class where the teacher states the pose name and either demonstrates the pose and you follow or adjusts you whilst you are practicing.

The Primary Series is a set sequence of poses broken down into:

Sun Salutations - a great warm up, a good way to connect the movement with the breath and to focus the mind, the more you practice these the more they become a moving meditation.

2. The Standing Sequence, a  set sequence of poses. Beginners will generally practice the easier poses until they develop strength and flexibility and then the full standing sequence will be practiced.

3. The Seated Sequence,: Beginners will practice half of this sequence, we take beginners up to Marychasana D and once this pose has been mastered we then offer the next pose and once mastered the next and so on adding one pose at a time.

Backbends and the finishing sequence is practiced by all, these are your recovery poses

The session ends with Savasana, a deep relaxation where all of your efforts cultivate in to the lovely euphoric sensation.

The primary series takes 90 minutes to complete once mastered, beginners will start with a one hour session.

We master each series like this. The  ore you practice the sooner you complete the series.

The Ashtanga method of yoga is a great detox, you will squeeze ad stretch every part of you drawing toxins to the surface and then flushing them out via the sweat we naturally create. This is what gives you that refreshed feeling post practiced. It takes time and effort to complete so its a great way to focus your mind on something other than work, life, stress, etc. It takes time to learn but it is completely worth it, the benefits just keep coming.
