Lyndsey Stewart, Trainer Pro and Senior Yoga Teacher at My Yoga Place.
Lyndsey is passionate about introducing new students to all that Yoga can offer and she loves to help each individual create a yoga practice that best suits them. Lyndsey will encourage you develop discipline and consistency whilst bettering your health and will take you from beginners to advanced to Yoga teacher if you wish to.
Lyndsey first discovered Yoga when she 15 and she was gripped immediately, Moreso by the physical benefits of yoga. By the age of 25, suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks Lyndsey began to take yoga more seriously and it became a daily practice with the mental health benefits being the most beneficial. By the age of 30 fully recovered and living life to the full again she knew that she had to teach, and so she spent a few years travelling to Asia and India to learn from some of the best teachers in the world.
In 2010 Ellesmere Port Yoga was opened and to this day is still thriving.
During the 2020 pandemic with the studio closed MY Yoga Place Online was created and has gone from being a needs must studio to perfect way to practice every day without having to leave the house. Lyndsey is a mum and practicing at home has been a saving grace, she had always wanted to connect with people and practice with others at the crack of dawn but just didn't have the freedom to leave the house but now all her wishes are fulfilled and she has a great morning community to practice with . Lyndsey is passionate about helping people establish and develop their practice and although we practice online there is a support group where questions can be asked and she check in regularly to see what you are struggling with etc.
In both classes and online Lyndsey has developed a very inclusive community, where classes are lighthearted but challenging. Yogais a lifetsyle, a commitment and a powerful tool for transformation where is everyone is welcome.
At Lyndsey's Yoga classes you will always get a warm welcome, she will allow you to practice at your own pace, establishing a practice that suits you best. Lyndsey will encourage you to listen to your body and to follow your breath. Lyndsey has a light hearted way of getting you through a challenging practice, we make light of yoga and we make light of life, we learn on the mat and we practice what we learn off the mat in our every day lives and this is the true essence of yoga. To practice with purpose and integrity and to then live with purpose and integrity. Lyndsey is passionate about Yoga and making life great, her passion and purpose is infectious. We stretch, we strengthen, we breathe, we connect, we surrender and we live life in a better way.
Yoga is a great way to improve your physical health via strengthening and stretching, boosting circulation and developing the respiratory system through deeper breathing. This creates better health and wellbeing. Mentally, Yoga will help you focus your mind and gain clarity, pausing and clearing your mind can work wonders during times of stress, generally feeling good will help you react better to life. Yoga is about helping you feel better, it helps you better connect and become more present with yourself and others all whilst and bettering your health.
Ashtanga Yoga is one of the more challenging forms of yoga.
It consists of six series
1. The Primary Series
2. The Intermediate Series
3-6 Advanced Series A,B,C,D
In most led classes you will primarily practice the primary series in a led class where the teacher states the pose name and either demonstrates the pose and you follow or adjusts you whilst you are practicing.
The Primary Series is a set sequence of poses broken down into:
Sun Salutations - a great warm up, a good way to connect the movement with the breath and to focus the mind, the more you practice these the more they become a moving meditation.
2. The Standing Sequence, a set sequence of poses. Beginners will generally practice the easier poses until they develop strength and flexibility and then the full standing sequence will be practiced.
3. The Seated Sequence,: Beginners will practice half of this sequence, we take beginners up to Marychasana D and once this pose has been mastered we then offer the next pose and once mastered the next and so on adding one pose at a time.
Backbends and the finishing sequence is practiced by all, these are your recovery poses
The session ends with Savasana, a deep relaxation where all of your efforts cultivate in to the lovely euphoric sensation.
The primary series takes 90 minutes to complete once mastered, beginners will start with a one hour session.
We master each series like this. The ore you practice the sooner you complete the series.
The Ashtanga method of yoga is a great detox, you will squeeze ad stretch every part of you drawing toxins to the surface and then flushing them out via the sweat we naturally create. This is what gives you that refreshed feeling post practiced. It takes time and effort to complete so its a great way to focus your mind on something other than work, life, stress, etc. It takes time to learn but it is completely worth it, the benefits just keep coming.
