Mindful Yoga for Mindful living: Pt.1 y

The 8 limbs of Yoga

The Yamas are foundational ethical principles in yoga philosophy, offering guidance on how to live harmoniously with others and cultivate inner peace. By integrating these principles into your daily life, you can foster personal growth, reduce stress, and enhance your overall well-being.

The Five Yamas and Their Application

  1. Ahimsa (Non-violence)
This principle encourages kindness and compassion towards all beings, including oneself. Practicing Ahimsa involves avoiding harm in thoughts, words, and actions. By embracing non-violence, you can create a more peaceful and empathetic environment.

  2. Satya (Truthfulness)
Satya emphasizes honesty and integrity. Being truthful fosters trust and authenticity in relationships. It also involves aligning your actions with your true self, leading to greater self-awareness and clarity.

  3. Asteya (Non-stealing)
Beyond refraining from taking what isn't yours, Asteya encourages contentment and gratitude. By letting go of envy and desire for others' possessions or achievements, you cultivate a sense of abundance and satisfaction in your own life.

  4. Brahmacharya (Moderation)
This principle advocates for self-control and moderation, particularly concerning sensory pleasures. Practicing Brahmacharya helps in conserving energy and focusing it towards personal and spiritual growth.

  5. Aparigraha (Non-possessiveness)
Aparigraha teaches the importance of letting go of attachments and material possessions. By embracing simplicity and non-attachment, you can experience freedom from the burdens of excess and cultivate inner peace.

Benefits of Practicing the Yamas

  • Enhanced Self-Awareness: Regular reflection on these principles promotes mindfulness and a deeper understanding of your thoughts and behaviors.

  • Improved Relationships: By embodying compassion, honesty, and non-attachment, you foster healthier and more meaningful connections with others.

  • Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Living in alignment with these ethical guidelines can alleviate inner conflicts and promote a sense of tranquility.

  • Personal Empowerment: Embracing the Yamas encourages self-discipline and resilience, empowering you to make conscious choices that align with your values.

Integrating the Yamas into Daily Life

  • Mindful Reflection: Set aside time each day to contemplate how you've embodied these principles and identify areas for growth.

  • Intentional Living: Make conscious decisions that align with the Yamas, such as practicing gratitude, speaking truthfully, and simplifying your lifestyle.

  • Community Engagement: Engage in acts of kindness and service, reinforcing the interconnectedness emphasized by these ethical guidelines.

By incorporating the Yamas into your daily routine, you can cultivate a life of harmony, purpose, and inner fulfillment. During the yama's course Lyndsey will guide you through a yoga asana practice talking you through incorporating these principles into your practice and helping you understand how you can apply this all to your daily life/interactions with others.

Its been exactly 5 years since we entered lockdown.
I remember closing my classes down before Boris made his speech feeling rather anxious about how my business was going to survive. Back then I was terrified of being on camera, hated having my photo taken and couldn't speak on the phone. I discovered Zoom and realized the only way for me to reach yoga was via video link up and so I was forced into doing what I 💯 would never have chosen to do.
In hindsight it was the best thing for me, I absolutely love teaching online now, in fact I prefer it sometimes, I find its a safer space to teach and practice, it's a more intimate experience. As a teacher I feel I have so much more to offer online. The only thing I can't do is adjust a student but with the variety of options and the time convenience and the way in which I teach I feel I more than make up for it.

I would never have discovered my online studio had I not been pushed into it, if it wasn't for COVID I would never have had this, yes there were many negatives to what COVID brought and none of us would choose it again but I have to stop and celebrate what I now have. My yoga online. Already 5 years old this week.

In celebration of that I have created a new course. 2020.
20 Yoga session for £20. I expect you to complete this over a 4 week period 5 X 20 minute yoga sessions per week

You will gain a deeper insight into what yoga is
Via pranayama (breath work) Asana (mindful movement) and yoga nidra (relaxation.)

    Suitable for all levels.

3 Free 40 minute yoga video's for recovery

    Recovery has great value

Many of my friends complete sporting activities that they need a recovery from. This 40 minute session is best practiced a day or 2 after the activity to ensure less aches/pains or injury and ensure you can get back into your activity with better health and energy. How well you recover will depend how well you do next time you train. Relax.

How well you recover determines how well you return

Another post activity/post intensive recovery session which is equally good for beginners.

    Knee Therapy

My Son plays a lot of basketball and recently had to take a rest from training and has missed out on training, matches and camps because he has overused his knees and created pain whilst going through a growth spurt. His GP has prescribed rest and anti-inflammatories until the pain has gone. I know he needs to take better care of his body, he needs to recover well, stretch and improve the condition of his body. I have created this video specifically to help his knee's. how do we know his knee's need help - because that's where the pain is, this works on the mental body also, where there is discomfort or pain we need to nurture and address with flexibility. Ellesmere Port Classes

I love the variety of Lyndsey's online courses, i can always find one that matches what i need.Sometimes i will want mindful breathing, other times a short energetic movement or a long slow paced practice. Lyndsey gives clear guidance on the video's which is great as i can follow the flows without having to watch the screen. Lyndsey shares real life stories which is wonderful as you get an authentic, human she also leaves in the interruptions form her adorable dogs and this helps me see that when life interrupts you can move on without getting frustrated and that not everything needs to be perfect. I really enjoy the courses and more about yoga and having it so accessible is bliss.

I love the weekly classes, Lyndsey and the tribe are always welcoming and they are the highlight of my week. Lyndsey encourages me to challenge myself and not to settle on the easy pose. Lyndsey has taught me how to listen to my body so i know when to push myself and how far and to also not be led by my ego. The classes are a great way to learn alternative poses and adjustments are always offered  to help get the most out of the practice. I have tight hamstrings so i struggle with a few poses but Lyndsey has shown me that i can still benefit from all of the poses even if i feel i am held back.

I have the unlimited annual class pass because i like to practice yoga every day and it would cost me a fortune if i paid for classes as pay as you go. I attend a class once per week for the social aspect, to get adjustments and for Lyndsey to keep a check on my practice. I practice the livestream each week day morning, i do  a led primary series and a led intermediate series twice per week. I like this because i am at home nwithout being impacted by anyone else in the room so i feel like its a solo practice, it also helps me because i have children at home and cant leave the house at that hour. At weekends i will sometimes do one of lyndsey's courses beause its a gret way of learning more andthis all helps to improve my life.

    Suggestions for practice

If you are completely new to yoga i would start with the free beginners sessions and if you like it then begin the Tuesday evening or Sunday morning sessions.

If you feel you would like to incorporate yoga into your daily life then join us for the rise and shine ashtanga yoga sessions each week day at 6:30am. The full one hour session might be too much for you initially but  you could start by completing just 10, 20, 30 minutes and when you feel ready do more. Little and often is best and i think you would get more out of 20 minutes every day than one hour per week.

    testimonials

I've been attending Lyndsey's rise and shine sessions every morning for the last 3 years and my practice has completely transformed. I couldn't start the day without it now.

    Class passes

You can book in for just one session, once course, on month or  go unlimiited annually for the most savings.

    FAQs

    Do i need a mat

Yes. Opt for a non slip natural rubber mat. Try not to change your mat so often bare in mind these mats will end up in landfill, lets reduce our waste and buy one that will last.

Do i need any experience for the rise and shine sessions.

Yes. Start with the beginners sessions, Lyndsey will point you in the right direction.

I don't feel like practicing should I push myself.

Yes, still practice but back off out of any strain, use your practice to release and refresh rather than trying to achieve any great things. Follow your breath more,

    What should i wear

Light comfortable clothes that you can move freely in. In winter wear layers so that when you warm up you can peal a layer off.

I'm not sure I am doing it right

If it feels good and you are breathing fully then my guess is you are doing ok. Try not to focus on what the pose looks like but what it feels like then ask yourself could I be straighter, could I go deeper, if you can then do but if you are at your maximum then perhaps back off. Opt for good posture with space to breath over anything else.
